Our Story

Rooted in the Leelanau Peninsula

Hahnenberg Farm Market has been a fixture of the Leelanau Peninsula for generations, rooted in the rich soil and cool lake breezes that make this corner of northern Michigan extraordinary.

Every season, we plant, tend, and harvest with the same care our family has practiced since the beginning. What grows here isn't just food — it's a reflection of the land, the climate, and the hands that work it.

When you shop with us, you're not just buying produce. You're tasting a place. You're supporting a family farm. You're choosing something that was grown with intention, not shipped across the country.

What We Grow

From the Field

Each variety is selected for flavor, hardiness, and the unique terroir of the Leelanau Peninsula. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is forced.

Colorful summer vegetables including tomatoes, peppers, and squash

Summer Vegetables

Tomatoes that actually taste like tomatoes. Sweet corn, peppers, squash, and everything the warm season gives us.

Fresh root vegetables including carrots, beets, and potatoes

Root Vegetables

Carrots, beets, potatoes, and onions pulled from cool soil — dense with flavor, stored through winter naturally.

Apples & Stone Fruit

Michigan's apple country is our backyard. Honeycrisp, Macintosh, and stone fruit picked the week you visit.

Fresh herb bundles including basil, mint, and rosemary

Herbs & Greens

Basil, mint, kale, and salad greens — harvested daily, packed with the intensity only fresh-picked herbs can deliver.

Seasonal goods including honey, jams, and preserved items

Seasonal Goods

Maple syrup, honey, jams, and preserves made from our own harvest — small-batch, handcrafted, and deeply local.

Fresh cut flower bouquets in seasonal arrangements

Cut Flowers

When the fields bloom, so do we. Seasonal bouquets and single stems — because your table deserves beauty too.

The Seasons

Four Distinct Crops

Lake Leelanau's climate — shaped by two great lakes — gives us a growing season unlike anywhere else in the state. Each season brings something different, and we plan our entire year around it.

Spring

The Awakening

Early greens, radishes, and pea shoots break through the last of the frost. The soil warms slowly, and the first plantings go in while the air still carries that sharp, clean edge of March.

Summer

The Full Harvest

This is what we grow for. Tomatoes, corn, beans, peppers — the market overflows. July and August are long days between the rows, and the best meals happen at the kitchen table after a full day of picking.

Autumn

The Last Gift

Apples, squash, and storage crops. The fruit trees are heavy, the pumpkins are perfect, and the first frost is always a surprise — even when you know it's coming. This is when the market smells like cider and woodsmoke.

Winter

The Quiet Months

The fields rest. We plan, we seed, we maintain. When the market reopens in spring, it's with purpose and preparation — every row mapped, every variety chosen, every detail considered.
